Two Central Conservatory of Music professors, Sheng Yuan and Zou Xiang, and pianist Yuan Fang, will present a night of solo-piano, double-piano and three-piano pieces. The program will include Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” and “Symphony No. 5” (fourth movement), Chopin’s “Nocturne in C Minor, Op. 48, No. 1,” Debussy’s “Estampes” and “En Blanc et Noir,” Ravel’s “La Valse,” Messiaen’s “Regard de L’Esprit de Joie” and Rzewski’s “Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues.”
Graduating from the Manhattan School of Music in the United States, Sheng has studied with pianist Rosalyn Tureck, from whom he learned to perceive the depth of music and treat music seriously. Sheng remains devoted to conduct research on keyboard works by Bach. His understanding and mastery of the harpsichord and early piano works by Bach have been praised. Moreover, his research and presentation for works by Bach have also attracted much attention from music circles.

Yuan is a pianist and piano educator enjoying the limelight on the Chinese and international stage. The German media hails her as “an amazing Chinese pianist who tugs at the heartstrings of the audience.” Chinese media also offers praise: “Her music is brimming with justice, love and goodness. She has injected irresistible cultural power into Chinese classical music.” Yuan obtained the highest German academic degrees conferred by the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Munchen, with a double major in piano and chamber music. She has attained a qualification recognized as a doctoral equivalent by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
Yuan Fang
Zou obtained his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the Juilliard School. He has published four albums with piano works by Schubert, Brahms, Ligeti, Messiaen and Goodowski.
He holds academic lectures and open classes at many universities, including Curtis Institute of Music, New England Conservatory of Music, Oberlin College and Conservatory as well as nine Chinese conservatories.
