Shenzhen opens its first supercharging integrated experience center in Futian
Shenzhen Daily 2023-10-30 17:58

Shenzhen opened the city’s first supercharging integrated experience center for the new energy vehicles (NEVs) with a launching event held on the morning of October 27 at the Yinli Center in Futian District.

During the event, guests visited the fully liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging station, which has been developed by the Shenzhen power supply bureau under China Southern Power Grid and China’s tech giant Huawei Technologies Co. and was first unveiled during the International Digital Energy Expo 2023 in June in 2023 as part of the city’s "Supercharging City" initiative to build 300 supercharging stations for new energy vehicles within three years in the southern China city.

According to Feng Yuebo, general manager of Shenzhen power supply bureau of China Southern Power Grid, the "supercharging" stands for a new technology that recharges a NEV faster than the earlier version fast-charging facilities. The supercharging station boasts a maximum output power of 600 kilowatts and a peak output current of 600 amps, and the charging speed can reach 1km per second at its fastest.

Technicians from Huawei, the technology provider for the station, said that the full liquid-cooled supercharging solution provides speedy charging as well as great heat dissipation.

Compared with earlier version of air-cooled technology, the new supercharging solution has fewer damageable parts and better reliability, extending the service life of facilities to 20 years. Additionally, the process is a lot quieter as it doesn’t need so many fans for heat dissipation.

During the event, guests also visited the integrated fast charging station with light storage and charging inspection capabilities, as well as the "destination charging stations" provided for mall consumers. They also explored the large-scale V2G (vehicle-to-grid) system and the intelligent operation service system.

Guests highly recognized the technological applications and service experiences centered around the concepts of "people-oriented" and "green and low-carbon."

The construction of high-standard charging stations and the development of new energy vehicles rely on advanced energy storage technology and products. As a key technology for achieving the “dual-carbon strategy” and energy revolution, new energy storage has become an important focus.

Since the beginning of this year, the Shenzhen Energy Storage Standards Committee has achieved a series of results in standard development. During this event, two international standards and one national standard in new energy materials were formally released, providing support for the new energy vehicle industry and green development.

Shenzhen, as a leader and innovator in new energy vehicles, ranks among the top in the world in terms of the total number of new energy vehicles, and has established a good industrial ecosystem. The rapid construction of the "Supercharging City" in Shenzhen with extraordinary speed and starting with the Futian Central Business District have set an example and played a significant role in promoting the development of the new energy vehicle industry, said Xu Erman, deputy secretary-general of the China Electric Vehicle Hundred People's Association.

In recent years, Futian has vigorously promoted the development of the new energy industry and the construction of new energy vehicle infrastructure. The district is home to leading firms and institutions such as China General Nuclear Group, Huawei Digital Energy and Siemens Energy Innovation Center.

Currently, Futian is taking multiple measures to accelerate the construction of the supercharging facilities. It has already completed the construction of several fully liquid-cooled supercharging demonstration stations.

In addition, nine supercharging stations have been built throughout the district, with plans to continue the construction of 88 more, leading the way in creating a "1-kilometer supercharging circle."
