SHENZHEN International Airport is inviting 100 residents to take part in one of two tours to learn about the facilities and operation of the new Terminal C, which opens Nov. 28.
The tours will be held Saturday and Nov. 17.
People who’d like to attend the Nov. 17 tour can send an email with their name, ID number, phone number and an electronic photo of their ID card. Participants are asked to specify whether they’ll drive to the terminal or take the Metro. Online application for Saturday’s tour is already closed.
Terminal C will offer numerous new or improved facilities that weren’t offered in terminals A and B.
Handicap accessibility
For travelers who use wheelchairs and have to take shuttle buses to distant boarding gates, Terminal C features numerous ramps to bus areas. Every restroom in the new terminal has separate stalls for people with disabilities, and elevators are installed near escalators.
Waiting areas in the new terminal offer a total of 10,970 seats, all of which are designed without hazards, such as awkward gaps between seats, to protect travelers from injuries or difficulties.
Children and parents
Following international practices, Terminal C includes a playground for children near boarding gates 25 and 26 and offers independent nursing rooms for mothers and babies in 50 restrooms. Restrooms are located within every 200 meters.
The nursing rooms are equipped with milk-warmers, chairs and tables. Strollers for babies 2 months to 3 years old are available for parents.
The terminal also has four emergency aid stations on each floor.
Prayer room
In the international departure hall on the new terminal’s third floor, a prayer room is available for people of all religious beliefs.
GPS for VIP travelers
Shenzhen Airlines will offer a GPS system for its VIP passengers in Terminal C to ensure they’re able to board their flights punctually.
After passengers enter the airline’s VIP lounge to wait for boarding, they can receive a “return to launch site” (RTLS) card that activates the GPS system. The airline will be able to detect passengers’ location through the GPS system. The RTLS cards also will remind passengers to board by flashing lights and vibrating when boarding time is approaching.
