The selection of this year’s Youth Science and Technology Awards has been launched, according to Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology.
Those who are working in Shenzhen and not beyond 35 years old with outstanding achievements in science and technology can apply for the awards, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday.
The achievements reported for the awards should be made in Shenzhen and the intellectual property of the achievements should be owned either by the applicants or Shenzhen-based institutions.
At most eight winners will be selected for this year’s awards, each with a cash prize of 500,000 yuan (US$71,350).
Applications are available on two websites, www.szsta.org and will close July 28.
The award is the highest one set by the municipal government to honor outstanding young individuals working on science and technology in the city.
Some of the previous winners include Liu Zihong, the founder of Royole, Liu Ruopeng, the founder of Kuang-Chi Institute of Advanced Technology, and Wang Tao, the founder of DJI.
The award, as one of the city’s seven science and technology awards, was designed to encourage young workers in science and technology in Shenzhen to pioneer breakthrough innovations, advance scientific and technological progress and speed up the construction of the national innovative city.
Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology will organize experts to be in charge of the assessment work.
So far, a total of 60 scientific and technological workers in Shenzhen have been rewarded, with cash prizes of 21 million yuan in total, according to the Daily.
