By implementing the strategy of “Great economy, Great culture, and Great service”, Futian District is making great efforts to realize a sustainable, rapid and healthy economy. Futian District takes hi-tech industries, modern finance and service trade as its backbone industries. It has been going all out to create a Central Economical and Cultural Area and a Sub-Central Commercial Area, which is characterized by a metropolitan economy based on headquarters economy, exhibition economy and culture-oriented economy.
Apart from hi-tech industries, Futian District will further create a rational investment environment and expand the channels and areas of foreign investments in the hope of attracting foreign investors to set up regional headquarters and R&D centers in Futian District and channeling their capitals to tertiary industries, such as infrastructure construction, modern logistics and finance, etc.
Digital household electric appliance industry:
In the digital household electric appliance industry, endeavors have been made to develop the technologies and products in the fields of information collection, processing, transmission, display, and control, thus making the household electric appliances develop in the direction of digitalization, integration, intelligentization and plasma planes of high resolution.
Biotech and new material industry:
In the biotech and new material industry, the priority is to develop the gene engineering, biomedicines, biochips and national level new medicines. Insect-resistant transgenic cotton project and its industrialization are encouraged. The key issues in new material industry are the development and application of nanometer technology, composite material technology, and special material technology.
It is crucial to use new hi-techs and advanced applied techniques to transform the traditional superior industries such as Chinese patent medicine, medical instruments, textile and garment, clocks and watches, household electric appliance, jewelry and gifts, promote the digital design, network manufacture, cleaner production and wide application of modern techniques, as well as enhance the technological level and the added value of products.
Hi–tech industries
Futian District is keeping on speeding up the industrialization of new hi-tech industries, focusing on the electronic information, modern biological technology and medicine, new materials and new energy, advanced manufacturing technology and equipment, modern agriculture, integration of environmental protection and utilization of marine resources.
Focusing on Internet, the IT trade is encouraged to develop multi-media computers, 
mobile products for accessing Internet and network security products.
The network and communication industry is encouraged to develop mobile communication, data communication, photoelectric communication, satellite communication and broadband connection accessories, etc.
The software section places emphasis on supporting the applied software, software for product designing, system software localization, middleware, system integration, and information service. Tian’an Digital City, a national level science and technology park, will be supported to realize the aim of “Futian, A Software Park.”
The Photoelectric industry focuses on the development of techniques and products in such fields as AON (All Optical Network), photoelectric parts, optical fiber & cable and optical storage, laser processing, laser arrangement, laser imaging and electronic medical instruments.
Modern service industry
Futian District will further expand the fields for foreign investment, encourage foreign capitals to invest on tertiary industries and also encourage Chinese scholars abroad to set up their business in Futian.
Shenzhen will take further steps to ease the restrictions for using foreign investment to set up large retail and wholesale enterprises, distribution centers, regional headquarters in the central part of Shenzhen City, as well as to participate in the construction of logistics centers, hotels, restaurants and tourism projects. Famous consulting companies and accountant offices are encouraged to invest in Futian, and large e-commerce companies, telecommunication companies, and exhibition agents are encouraged to locate in Futian.
