Lakes and hills, as well as fields make Futian become a treasure land.

Located in the central part of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, Futian District ranges from Hongling Road in the east to the Overseas Chinese Town (OCT ) in the west. It links Longhua Town in the north, and Shenzhen River in the south, facing New Territories and Yuen Long of Hong Kong across the Shenzhen River. It is the center of politics, culture, information, international exhibitions, and the central business district (CBD) that is on construction in Shenzhen. Futian has an area of 7,880 hectares and a Permanent resident population of 996,000.

Since its establishment, Futian has achieved great success of economic growth by insisting on high standard construction, high speed development and human-oriented strategy. Through science and education, Futian realized a sustainable and coordinated development of economy. In 2004, its GDP reached 67.618 billion Yuan, its total industrial output value over the scale was 94.177 billion Yuan, the output value of Hi-tech industry was 71.24 billion Yuan, the total retail sales of consumer goods was 28.168 billion Yuan, the total volume of export was USD 15.6 billion, and the total investment in fixed assets was 25.811 billion Yuan.

This rapid growth mainly owes to the foreign investment and trade. By the end of December 2004, the accumulated amount of foreign capital actually utilized in Futian District reached USD 5.15 billion with contracted amount of foreign capital investment reaching USD 9.86 billion. Investors from 60 countries and regions had invested in Futian, with 5442 investment projects.

Aiming at developing Futian into a modern, prosperous, safe, and well cultured downtown area with beautiful environment, the Futian District Committee of the CCP and the Futian District Government are implementing the strategy of “Great economy, Great culture, Great environment and Great service” to accelerate the construction of Futian.
