  Futian has formed an industrial system that focuses on telecommunication, electronics, computer software and other IT industries. Other industries, such as apparel, timekeepers and jewelry also play important roles. There is a coexistence of different economic sectors, including state-owned, foreign investment, collective and private sectors. Totally there are more than 2000 industrial organizations in Futian, among which 43.8% are technological enterprises accredited by Shenzhen Municipal Government. 73.4 % of total industrial output over the scale of Futian is contributed by IT industries.

  Electronic information industry is the pillar industry of the hi-tech industries in Futian, with its output and values of export amounting to 90% of the total hi-tech products. Computer software industry has become a featured industry of Futian. Futian boasts more than half of the software enterprises accredited by Shenzhen municipal government, as welll as 40.4% of the private technological enterprises registered in Shenzhen Municipal Administration of Science and Technology. Some industries, such as optical, mechanical and electronic integration, new materials, new energy, have developed rapidly. Many worldwide well-known companies have set up their manufacturing bases or R&D institutions in Futian. There are 50 projects invested by the world top 500 companies. And many national well-known groups and companies have set up sales or R&D headquarters in Futian.
