Education
Shenzhen boasts a total of 1,470 schools at all levels, including five international schools and three for students from Hong Kong families, as well as 10 full-time colleges and universities, including the Graduate School branches of Tsinghua University and Harbin Institute of Technology. A Virtual University Park has been built in Shenzhen to provide research and network resources for more than 40 well-known institutions from home and abroad. To date, in excess of 5,000 overseas students have returned to Shenzhen and set up about 300 high-tech enterprises.
As an education hub in Guangdong province, Futian has 79 primary and secondary schools, of which 68 are government-run (45 primary schools, 14 junior high schools, four schools in a 9-year compulsory system, one complete secondary school, three independent senior high schools and one vocational high school), and 11 private schools, with a total 102,443 students enrolled. About 30,000 youngsters attend 119 kindergartens (including baby nurseries).
