The Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone (the Hetao cooperation zone) is the only platform featuring science and technology innovation in the outline of the development plan of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and it is a major cooperation platform among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in the national 14th Five-year Plan.

Covering an area of 3.89 square kilometers in the southern part of the Futian District, the Hetao cooperation zone consists of the 0.87-square-kilometer Hong Kong section (Hong Kong-Shenzhen Technology Innovation and Science Industrial Park), and the Shenzhen section that measures 3.02 square kilometers.

The Hetao cooperation zone is located within the half-hour scientific research circle between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and the one-hour industrial circle in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with the “two checkpoints and three passageways” that are directly connected to Hong Kong.

It boasts outstanding institutional advantages for its features of “one river, two banks,” “one zone, two industrial parks” and “one country two systems.” It is surrounded by the Hong Kong Mai Po Nature Reserve and the Shenzhen International Mangrove Center.

The Hetao cooperation zone is based in Shenzhen and Hong Kong and connects to the world by taking advantage of the two cities’ collaborative innovation.

The Hetao cooperation zone has attracted top scientific research talents and high-tech projects from around the world to settle in the zone by introducing innovative policies, mechanisms and services. 

The Hetao cooperation zone has attracted about 150 high-end R&D and industrialization projects in the fields of life science, information science and material science, and a number of other international science and technology innovation institutions have made it their bases.
