The 1st Chinese Quintessence Carnival of Xiangmihu Subdistrict was held in Xiangmi Park on the afternoon of February 5, 2023.

The event was organized by the Futian District Foreign Affairs Office, the Shenzhen Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation (SFIEC) and the Party Working Committee of Xiangmihu Subdistrict.

With the theme of "Xiangmi celebrating the arrival of spring in the Year of the Rabbit, Chinese and foreign friends enjoying the Lantern Festival together," the event was one part of a series of activities of the Xiangmihu Subdistrict New Era Civilization Practice Institute and the International Block's Cultural Space.

It was designed to help Xiangmihu Subdistrict create Shenzhen's best international block with transnational cultural impact, highlighting the cultural innovation and vitality of downtown Futian.

The traditional Chinese culture, with its long history, has great heritage passed down from generation to generation. As part of the Chinese New Year celebration, the Shehuo parade involved both Chinese and foreigners. It got more citizens to take a closer look and feel the traditional Chinese culture, which is a boost to national pride and self-confidence.

From the Donghai Square to Xiangmi Park, fourteen processions of Chinese and foreign actors, escorted by volunteers, paraded along the street. They juggled, performed Yangge dances, waved red silk, and slapped the snare drums around their waists. Things were loud. Expats also took the opportunity to experience such interesting folklore.

As one of the first batch of Shenzhen’s international blocks, Xiangmihu Subdistrict added international elements to the 1st Chinese Quintessence Carnival Performance.

With the goal of cementing friendship through cultural exchange, the event enabled world cultures to meet and mix in the art world, creating a strong atmosphere for international exchange. The Shehuo performance was followed by the "Presentation of Chinese and Foreign Cultures" show on the main stage of Xiangmi Park.

The performers were Chinese or foreigners and the show was divided into three chapters: "Harmony," "Joy" and "Together." Artists from home and abroad entertained or interacted with the audience with songs, dances, operas and Sichuan opera face-changing art, treating them to an exciting and varied cultural performance.

This event involving Chinese and foreigners featured a diversified program that includes both foreign and domestic contents, as well as elegant and popular contents. 

It fully revealed the way how traditional Chinese culture and foreign culture meet and mix. A joyful, peaceful, festive and welcoming atmosphere was thus created. 

A distinctive and atmospheric audio-visual feast was offered to the public, who enthusiastically embraced and widely praised the event afterwards.
