Futian District is located in the south-central part of Shenzhen, bordering Luohu District to the east and Nanshan District to the west, facing Hong Kong’s New Territories to the south and adjoining Longhua District to the north. The district covers a total area of 78.66 square kilometers, about 4% of Shenzhen’s total area. It is home to major city landmarks such as the Civic Center, Lianhua Hill Park and Shenzhen’s tallest building, the Ping An International Finance Center. Futian’s economic aggregate ranks among the top county-level units nationwide: in 2025 it achieved a regional GDP of 642.022 billion yuan (US$93.44 billion). Its GDP per unit area, tax revenue per unit area, total import-export volume and value added of the financial industry have led Shenzhen for many years. Futian is the city’s only district chosen as one of the first model counties/districts under Guangdong Province’s “Hundreds-Thousands-Tens of Thousands” project; in 2025 the number of outstanding collectives and individuals from Futian recognized under that project ranked first in the city. The district has also been named the city’s Top Investment-Attraction District for three consecutive years.
