Green and pleasant 

Located south of the Tropic of Cancer, Futian has a subtropical maritime monsoon climate with mild temperatures and abundant sunshine, averaging 22.2°C annually. Its air quality is among the best in urban areas of the first-tier cities in China: 97.5% of days in 2025 reported excellent air quality, the average PM2.5 concentration was 16 µg/m³, and the assessed ozone concentration was 139 µg/m³. Futian is home to the Tanglang-Meilin-Yinhu mountain ranges in the north; and in the south lie the Shenzhen River, Shenzhen Bay and the Mangrove National Nature Reserve, which hosts the world’s first international mangrove center. The district contains five rivers and four reservoirs, and the share of high-quality water bodies has reached 100% for two consecutive years since 2024.

Futian has built 29.6 kilometers of greenways. The Xinzhou Mangrove Greenway won the 2023 China Habitat Environment Model Award and was named among Guangdong’s first batch of “green and beautiful belts.” The Meilin Reservoir-Xinzhou River was honored as one of Guangdong’s first provincial-level “happy rivers and lakes” and an outstanding case of beautiful rivers and lakes in Guangdong. Shenzhen Bay was honored a provincial first-batch beautiful-bay case. Some 43.23% of Futian area is covered by green with 144 parks, and parks are now accessible within a 500-meter radius across the district. The Futian Mangrove Ecological Park has been listed by the All-China Environment Federation as a “biodiversity-friendly wetland case” and featured in the UNFCCC’s 2025 Beautiful China · Green Space Users case collection. Futian has been recognized as a National Soil and Water Conservation Model district, meeting the national standards for water-saving society, and ranked among the top 10 in the inaugural “Green Guangdong” contest. Futian is the first central district of a mega city nationwide to be named a National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Zone.

Convenient and smooth transportation 

Futian’s transport network radiates across the city, linking to Hong Kong and connecting nationwide. Huanggang and Futian checkpoints and the Futian Bonded Zone Channel One provide direct connections to Hong Kong. The underground Futian High-speed Rail Station reaches Hong Kong West Kowloon in 14 minutes and Guangzhou South Railway Station in 38 minutes, forming a Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong half-hour commuting circle. Metro Line 11 reaches the Shenzhen airport transfer areas within about 30 minutes. Ten Metro lines run through Futian with a total mileage of 112.1 km; after current construction projects are completed the total will be 137.98 km, giving the district a rail transit density comparable to Tokyo and Hong Kong Central.

Commercial vitality renewed 

Futian is Shenzhen’s major consumption area, featuring the central business district (CBD) and distinctive commercial hubs such as Huaqiangbei, Chegongmiao-Jinsha, Meilin, and Yinli-Donghai. High-end shopping centers include One Avenue, Galaxy COCO Park, PA Mall, UpperHills, and KK ONE, forming an initial “1+5” commercial district system. Futian CBD was named a National Model Smart Business District by the Ministry of Commerce; Galaxy COCO Park, Joy City and Link Center City were recognized as National Model Smart Stores. The Futian CBD and UpperHills were selected among the first batch of Shenzhen’s municipal demonstration commercial areas and night-economy demonstration streets. Night-time economy formats such as Shopping Park and the Shuiwei 1368 Block are diverse and were named a 2024 Preferred Night-Economy District. The Huaqiangbei commercial area topped Guangdong Province’s 2025 “Happy Shopping Town” list in the Guangdong consumption season campaign organized by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Commerce. Representing Shenzhen in the national application for model business districts (pedestrian streets), Futian CBD ranked 10th nationwide and first in the city on the 2025 National Business District Top 100 list.

Rich tourism resources 

Iconic tourism sites such as Lianhua Hill Park and the Deng Xiaoping portrait attract many domestic and international visitors each year. Futian’s "Ten Scenes" — Lianhua Hill Park Spring Dawn, Ping An Cloud Diamond, Shanghai Hotel, Electronic Sky Street (Huaqiangbei Pedestrian Stree), Mangrove Egret Islet, the Deng Xiaoping Portrait, Civic Center, Xiangmi Flower Sea, Special  Economic Zone Ox, and Walled-Village Folk Customs — form the backbone of 45 themed cultural-tourism routes. These attractions also host the nation’s only regularly scheduled urban low-altitude helicopter tour. In 2025 Futian received 36.67 million visitors and was named a “2024 Vibrant District.” The district has 345 hotels, including nine officially star-rated hotels, of which five are five-star.
