As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, several dragon boat races have been taking place around Shenzhen.
As an integral part of the traditional festival that dates back to ancient China, the boat races will provide a unique opportunity for locals to experience the cultural heritage of the festival and the atmosphere is sure to be filled with energy, excitement and celebration.
The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is traditionally celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month on Chinese lunar calendar. It falls on June 22 this year.
As one of the most important traditions of the festival, dragon boat racing has been well received around the world. In addition to China, this sport is also popular in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and Singapore.
Locals will enjoy 12 teams paddling their dragon boats on Xinzhou River in Futian against the backdrop of urban buildings in the city center.
During the 2023 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament, a yingge dance parade, hip-hop dancers, rappers and cheerleaders will liven up the competition.
