On Oct. 20, violist Su Zhen, clarinetist Wang Tao, and pianist Zhang Fang of the Peking Trio will present a lecture-concert, showcasing the nuanced collaboration of various instruments in chamber music and the best chamber works. Established in 2019, the trio stands as one of China’s premier chamber ensembles. Following a tradition initiated by Mozart, the combination of viola, clarinet, and piano, though popular in Western countries, remains rare in China. The trio boasts an extensive repertoire spanning classical and pop pieces, along with compositions blending classical, pop, and folk elements. Building on the trio’s concert program at Shenzhen Concert Hall the previous evening, the musicians will highlight the unique allure of the mellow viola, the spirited clarinet, and the versatile piano.

On Oct. 19, the Afternoon Music Time series will feature a piano concert presenting works by Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Chinese composer Zhang Zhao. Then, on Oct. 26, the Chanson de Montagne Multiethnic Children’s Choir will perform choral pieces including “Viva la musica” and “Szello Zug.”
