The 2026 Futian Spring Festival Flower Market will open Feb. 10 and run through Feb. 16. Set on the Festival Plaza, this year’s market — themed “Galloping Bay Area, Blossoming Futian” — promises an immersive New Year celebration that blends international flair, cutting-edge tech and contemporary culture.

This year the market will assemble top IPs, host international floral exchanges, and stage hundreds of cultural performances to create a multi-faceted Spring Festival experience. Unlike a traditional Spring Festival flower market focused mainly on plants and New Year goods, the Futian market aims to deliver “visual impact, cultural engagement, emotional resonance and consumer enjoyment” within a single large-scale humanistic setting.

Design and artistic highlights

The market spans 24,000 square meters and features a curated visual program by Pan Zhe, a designer known for work on CCTV and Palace Museum creative projects. The main archway draws inspiration from Xu Beihong’s masterpiece “Eight Horses,” using the image of rearing steeds to convey auspiciousness and the spirit of “success arriving on horseback.”

The south rest area pairs streamlined seating with Zigong lanterns to create a warm, photo-friendly rest stop. The north rest area centers on “Galloping Horses Welcoming Spring,” where golden horses in dynamic poses symbolize Futian and the Bay Area’s pioneering momentum.

A sunken plaza merges the sweeping panorama of Song-Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng’s “A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains” with modern horticulture and light art to form an immersive, three-dimensional landscape of flowers and stars.

The north gate, shaped as a rainbow bridge with two horses and plum-blossom motifs, carries the dual message of “blossoms and fortune” and signals the region’s forward-looking, open posture.

Night programming activates walls with projection mapping and interactive light installations, including a “Light Forest” and a “Dome of Flowers,” in which illuminated horses trace paths through the lightscape to energize evening foot traffic and night-time economy.

Exhibitors, brands and activities

More than 200 specialty stalls will be arranged across the site, offering not only seasonal flowers and traditional New Year goods but also international creative products, trendy toys and specialty foods. The market brings together over a dozen major domestic and international brand partners to expand the event’s appeal beyond a conventional flower sale.

International horticulture

For the first time, Futian will host top international garden exhibitors: Canada’s Butchart Gardens will bring its world-class landscape aesthetics to the market, while Belgium’s century-old nursery NV Jules Block will present premium ornamental plants, allowing local visitors to experience European high-end horticulture without leaving the city.

Services for Greater Bay Area and international visitors

To serve residents across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and international guests, the market will provide multilingual information services and coordinate convenient cross-border transport connections. Organizers say a site map and visitor information will be available on location.
