Public benefit concerts for April

Shenzhen Concert Hall continues to present its public benefit concerts this April. The Beautiful Sunday series will invite audiences to experience the majestic sound of the pipe organ, and music critic Li Yanhuan will guide fans to appreciate Tchaikovsky's timeless melodies. 

The Afternoon Music Time series will treat audiences to the romantic rhythm of the accordion, the free improvisation of jazz, and the elegance of chamber music.

On April 12, Hong Kong-based organists Chiu Siu-ling and Eric Fan will perform adapted versions of both classical repertoire and modern works, including “Introduction and Passacaglia in D Minor,” “Flight of the Bumblebee,” “Our Love” and “Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies.”

Chiu holds a doctorate in organ performance and choral conducting from the American Conservatory of Music; Fan trained at the Eastman School of Music and the American Organ Institute at the University of Oklahoma. Fan once broke the world record for the fastest performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s exhilarating “Flight of the Bumblebee” on the organ, with a time of 1 minute and 13 seconds. The young talent is renowned for his exceptional pedal technique.

A stroll through the classics

On April 26, music critic Li Yanhuan, a member of the Shanghai Musicians Association, will lead the audience into Tchaikovsky’s musical world.

The author of ”Easy Listening Classics: Masters and Masterpieces” is a beloved music educator frequently invited to lecture nationwide. In simple, vivid language, he will share his understanding of Tchaikovsky’s works, revealing the passionate emotions and delicate sentiments hidden behind those melodies.

On April 4, during the Qingming Festival holiday, Shenzhen University teachers Wang Lulu and Li Lin will lead their outstanding students Zeng Yuqiao, Chen Chuancheng, and Wang Xinxin, as well as the Shenzhen Yunsheng Accordion Orchestra and the Shenzhen Bay School Bayan Accordion Orchestra, in an accordion concert. The program will feature both classical and pop music pieces.

On April 18, young pianist Cao Pai and double bass player Li Jing will perform a jazz concert, bringing pieces including “The Waltz of Amélie” and George Gershwin’s “Summertime.”

VerSus Trio.

On April 25, the VerSus Trio chamber ensemble will perform beloved Chinese and Western pieces such as “Libertango,” “Dream of Love,” “Csárdás,” and “Horse Racing.”

These concerts are free, but tickets are required. Follow the Shenzhen Concert Hall WeChat account (ID: szyinyuet) to reserve tickets.
