Violin recital by Sarah Chang
Futian Government Online 2017-08-24 16:42

U.S. violinist Sarah Chang will collaborate with U.S. pianist Julio Elizalde to present Bartok’s “Romanian Folk Dances,” Brahms’ “Violin Sonata No. 3” and Frank’s “Violin Sonata in A Major.”

Born in 1980, Chang is the daughter of a composer and a violinist who moved to the United States from South Korea in 1979.

Recognized as a child prodigy, Chang first played as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1989. She enrolled at Juilliard School to study music, graduated in 1999, and continued her studies. Especially during the 1990s and 2000s, Chang had major roles as a soloist with many of the world’s major orchestras.

In 1991, when Chang was 10 years old, she recorded her first album “Debut” which was released by EMI Classics and quickly reached the Billboard chart of classical best-sellers. Chang rose to fame and became known on an international scale. In 2006, Newsweek ranked her as one of the Top Eight Achieving Females in the United States. In the interview accompanying the feature, she commented: “I think having a career at such an early age kept me focused. We schedule at least two to three years in advance in the classical industry. I felt so grounded and so grateful to already know what it was that I wanted to do with my life.”

Elizalde is one of the most sought-after and multi-faceted artists of his generation. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Elizalde received a bachelor of music degree with honors from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He holds masters and doctor of musical arts degrees from the Juilliard School in New York City. He was praised as a musician of “compelling artistry and power” by the Seattle Times.

Elizalde has appeared with many leading artists, such as Itzhak Perlman, Teddy Abrams and Anne Manson. He has collaborated with artists such as violinist Pamela Frank and pianist Stephen Hough.
