If you are a fan of ballroom dance, you won’t want to miss the fiesta this weekend. The world’s best dancers are gathering in Shenzhen from Wednesday to Sunday to compete in the 15th WDC Shenzhen (China) Ballroom Dance Open Championships, the most prestigious ballroom and Latin dance competition in Asia.
More than 5,000 dancers from 30 countries and regions will participate in 173 categories in the five-day open championship. The panel of judges includes many former world champions and Blackpool Dance Festival judges, such as Robin Short, Marcus Hilton, Anthony Hurley and Karen Hardy.
Top seeds in standard and Latin dance include Ferdinando Iannaccone and Yulia Muskhina from the United States, Klemen Prasnikar and Alexandra Averkieva from Russia, Andrea Ghigiarelli and Sara Andracchio from Britain and Dorin Frecautanu and Marina Sergeeva from Moldova.
The competition is approved by the World Dance Council and is one of the three most prestigious dance competitions in the world. It is also regarded as an important and popular activity by the Futian District Government.
