Silicon Valley technologist and inventor Frank Cohen and award-winning artist and Walt Disney imagineer and muppeteer Terri Hardin will give a fun and information-rich talk on how they created original concepts by utilizing their interests in Steampunk style, Disney-style story telling and wearable art.

The talk will end with a discussion on using 3-D printing and other technologies to make the design-to-fabrication process inexpensive and accessible. They will highlight the big lessons necessary for moving from prototyping into overseas fabrication to help you with your own projects.

David Li, director of Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab, will share his insights on how the Shenzhen tech-ecosystem works. He will also show how startup maker teams could fully use local manufacturing and supply chain resources to accelerate their innovative projects into a commercialized business model.

Long fascinated by the maker movement’s ability to deliver Steampunk stories in real life, Cohen created a complete experience: a Steampunk-styled pocket watch with a magical glowing light system.

Hardin has designed Disney park attractions in France, Japan and Florida. She is a world-renowned puppeteer and performer and has been a Jim Henson muppeteer for more than 30 years.

In 2010, Li co-founded XinCheJian, the first hackerspace in China to promote hacker/maker culture and open source hardware. He also developed Ardublock, the most popular visual programming platform for Arduino. His Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab was established by Maker Collider and SIDA as a space and platform for worldwide makers to communicate and cooperate.
