TNT Theater from Britain will present English-language play “Hamlet” with Chinese subtitles to Shenzhen audience members in December.
“Hamlet” is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602. Set in the Kingdom of Denmark, the play dramatizes the revenge Prince Hamlet is instructed to enact on his uncle Claudius. Claudius had murdered his own brother, Hamlet’s father King Hamlet, and subsequently seized the throne, marrying his deceased brother’s widow, Hamlet’s mother Gertrude.
“Hamlet” is perhaps the most fascinating play ever written. It is also a complex and sometimes frustrating mix of different traditions, beliefs and source material. TNT’s production will challenge traditions and try to demonstrate that the prince is not a man flawed by indecision, but a man paralyzed by a moral problem. Hamlet is clear in his pursuit of truth, the play is a wonderful detective story, and he hopes that the truth will lead him to the answer to his moral question.
