Play in a world of illusion
Foreign Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipal People's Government 2020-04-20 11:38

Over 100 bizarre artworks by 30 international artists are on show at the Art Gallery of Artron. This is a rare chance for visitors to see diverse forms of work made of colorful materials.

The exhibition is mainly divided into four zones.

In “Dangerous Goods Storage Area,” artists create a series of installations that interweave reality and virtuality with the help of light, smoke, mirrors and other media. One of the highlights is “The Fable of the Snake” made by Chinese artist Xu Zhenbang who utilizes aluminum foil tubes to simulate the shape of the game and let it linger in the whole space. The visual effect of colorful light makes people wonder: Have I really passed the game or is it another level of “game over?”

In “Rework Area,” artists guide the audience to think outside the box through the recreation of common materials.

For instance, Liu Ya creates a black-themed space full of the sense of cold by using hanging curtains and crows. It is titled “Black’s Three Fables.” Surprisingly, this powerful work is made of light white foam, thus providing an even greater contrast.

The “waste” has its own mind even as it is thrown away; the unusual form of presenting endows materials an entirely new attitude. Welcome to the “Narcissus’ Park” built by Wang Jianyang in “Waste Area,” which shows a pink paradise implying the virtual social network. In this romantic and dreamlike scene, visitors can take as many selfies as they want and think about the meaning of social media.

Entering “Defective Product Area,” Daniel Palillo from Finland presents his work, which looks like clothing but is not wearable. In fact, they are sculptures made with cloth and painted with distinct individual characters who have spirit and soul. Palillo also has his own independent fashion brand and his designed clothes have been worn by stars like Lady Gaga.

Using the language of arts, the exhibition tries to offer a new angle to view daily life. This redefinition of consumerism gives a unique reflection of the current situation of mankind.

The Art Gallery of Artron requires visitors to book their visit in advance. Visitors must wear a face mask while inside the gallery and present their ID information and a personal health code from the WeChat miniapp “深i您” upon arrival.
