Co-hosted by the China Artists Association and the National Museum of China, the Second National Art and Design Work Exhibition is showcasing some of the best examples of works at the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning.

The exhibition aims to display works of traditional craft with a contemporary revival, introduce new techniques and materials, and highlight craftsmanship and aesthetic expression. Among the 2,810 entries received last year, 240 excellent works have been selected by the organizing committee for the exhibition which also includes 25 works by invited renowned artists.

According to the organizing committee, selected works should reflect local customs, inherit and revive traditional Chinese crafts, and be sustainable and environmental friendly. Artists should focus on details and craftsmanship and be encouraged to do cross-disciplinary exploration.

The exhibits are displayed in the carving, lacquer, fiber, glass, metal and accessories sections. Modern technologies, such as laser engraving and cutting, 3D-printing, centrifugal casting and liquid die forging, are introduced along with the exhibits. The works’ designs are also refreshing and diverse, many of which show the emotional connection between humans and products.

Another exhibition featuring works from Shenzhen Polytechnic’s School of Art and Design is also being held.
