Concerts get you in festive mood
Shenzhen Daily 2022-02-10 11:10

Two concerts will be held at the Shenzhen Concert Hall early next week to mark the Valentine’s Day and the Lantern Festival, also known in ancient China as a time for young people to meet their love.

Audiences are required to present a negative nucleus acid test done within 48 hours to enter the venue.

A night of strings

On Valentine’s evening, the Peng and Pan string duo will perform a romantic and intimate concert at the Chamber Hall on the fifth floor of the Shenzhen Concert Hall.

Violinist Peng Ke is the concert master of Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra while cellist Pan Chang, a pupil of Qin Liwei, is Peng’s colleague.

The program will include Alessandro Rolla’s “Duo for Violin and Cello in B-flat Major,” Reinhold Glière’s “Eight Pieces for Violin and Cello,” Georg Friedrich Handel’s “Passacaglia,” and Edward Elgar’s popular “Love’s Greeting.”

Rolla, an Italian violinist/violist, conductor and composer who was an early teacher and longtime friend of Paganini, was among the most prolific composers of his era, writing more duets than any other composers in history.

Soviet composer Glière, of German and Polish descent, steeped in Russian Romanticism, was noted for his works incorporating elements of the folk music of several eastern Soviet republics.

Elgar’s “Love’s Greeting” was a beautiful ode to his wife with all the compositional skill and imagination that would be found in his larger-scale compositions.

The choice of the program is very appropriate for a romantic date night with one’s love.

Time: 7:30 p.m., Feb. 14

Tickets: 99-299 yuan
