Futian parking lot becomes supercharging demonstration point
Shenzhen Daily 2023-12-05 10:07

An integrated parking lot which combines solar power generation and storage capacity with supercharging service at the compound for Futian district government agencies drew applause from more than 200 domestic and international guests attending the recently-concluded 6th Asia-Pacific Energy Regulatory Forum.

Deeeply impressed by the applications of the globally leading digital energy technology at the integrated parking lot, the gusts lavished in their praise for Shenzhen's achievements in green and low-carbon development.

The parking lot photovoltaic project started grid-connected power generation May 15, marking a key step forward in Futian’s efforts to achieve near zero carbon emission goals for the public agencies in the district.

With rooftop solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity that can be stored and used to charge electric vehicles, the project, which has a construction area of 2,500 square meters and an installed capacity of 500 kWh, generates 52,000 kWh of electricity per year.

The whole solar power project will have an installed capacity of 2,705 kWh and is expected to save 3 million kilowatt hours of electricity and reduce 1,358 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

How does an administrative parking lot become a model supercharging demonstration point? A recent visit to the parking lot showed how to combine human-centered parking and green, low-carbon charging experiences amid Shenzhen’s efforts to build the city into a “city of supercharging.” The parking lot highlights the achievements of Shenzhen's integrated construction of solar power storage, supercharging and vehicle-grid interaction.

Indeed, the district government of Futian has introduced the industry's most advanced charging piles with "zero investment."

The parking lot features highly technological energy-saving photovoltaic buildings, industry-leading Huawei 600kW liquid-cooled supercharging piles and fast-charging piles with vehicle-grid interaction (V2G) capabilities.

The parking lot is equipped with a variety of solar storage charging equipment to meet the diverse charging needs of new energy vehicle owners. This charging equipment can allow electric vehicle drivers to top up the batteries of their new energy vehicles in five minutes of charge and have a range of 200 kilometers.

Watching the mileage increase by about 1 kilometer per second during charging, the waiting feeling is completely different from before. Being able to charge at the same speed as refueling solves the range anxiety for new energy vehicle owners.

“I'm very happy to see this parking lot being developed as a demonstration point. This means that there will be more and more such well-equipped supercharging stations in Shenzhen in the future," said a resident who only gave her family name as Wang.

The integrated parking lot is equipped with 52 charging piles, including four of the industry's leading Huawei 600kW fully-liquid-cooled supercharging piles, 16 fast-charging piles, three fast-charging piles with vehicle-grid interaction (V2G) capabilities, and 29 AC charging piles.

In terms of energy conservation and emissions reduction, the area with photovoltaic solar panels at the parking lot is approximately 2,500 square meters, with an installed capacity of 500kW and an annual power generation of about 520,000 kWh, which is capable of reducing 235 tons of carbon dioxide.

Based on different lighting conditions, the daily power generation can reach a maximum of 2,800 kWh. At the same time, a Huawei 2MW energy storage system has been deployed, with a charge and discharge of about 2,000 kWh per day to generate a peak-valley arbitrage profit of about 900 yuan.

Furthermore, the entire parking lot's photovoltaic, energy storage, and charging piles have been connected to Shenzhen's virtual power plant management cloud platform, enabling intelligent scheduling and aggregated transactions of power generated at the parking lot.

For instance, on November 15, 132 kWh of power was dispatched, obtaining a subsidy of 462 yuan, and on November 16, 137 kWh of power was dispatched, obtaining a subsidy of 479.5 yuan.

It is worth mentioning that this project has used a new business model by luring social capital for the construction and operation of the parking lot, with profit-sharing based on market principles to achieve "zero input" from the district government.

With climate change an increasingly pressing issue, countries worldwide are accelerating decarbonization through renewable energy solutions.

Futian, as a national ecological development pilot zone and Shenzhen’s downtown areas, is striving to build itself into a pacemaker of achieving near zero carbon emission in a megacity’s central areas in China.

To achieve its goal of effectively bringing about a greener, low-carbon, sustainable society, Futian has been moving to promote energy-saving measures in the renovation of buildings for public institutions across the district.

Since the beginning of this year, Futian has set up 88 supercharging stations, part of the district’s efforts to build a high-quality new energy infrastructure network.

As part of a broader initiative to build Shenzhen into a "city of supercharging" by 2030, the southern China high-tech hub debuted its first fully liquid-cooled supercharging demonstration station at the International Digital Energy Expo 2023 on June 29 at the Futian Convention and Exhibition Center.

Jointly built by Huawei and China Southern Power Grid, the superchargers are ultra-fast chargers that provide a maximum of 600 kW of power and a maximum charge current of 600 amperes, which can supply enough power in just one second to travel 1 km.

This new technology provides a quieter, more stable and safer charging environment compared with traditional air-cooling methods. Furthermore, with fewer parts susceptible to wear, the equipment's lifespan can be up to 20 years longer.

The integration of digital and intelligent ultra-fast charging technology is considered essential to build a new generation of intelligent charging networks. According to the city’s plan, Shenzhen will build 300 supercharging stations by 2025. The number will be increased to 1,000 and over 2,000 by 2030 and 2035, respectively.

"I saw on the mini-program that it's possible to charge here, so I came over on my way. It took less than 10 minutes to fully charge my car," said Mr. Lin, a ride-hailing car owner who came to charge his car at Shenzhen’s first fully liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging demonstration station at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian. Lin said that not only is ultra-fast charging fast, but the charging gun is also more convenient than before. Charging prices vary according to different charging times, and the charging times for ride-hailing cars and private cars are conveniently staggered.

In recent years, Futian has vigorously promoted the development of the new energy industry and the construction of infrastructure for new energy vehicles. It has lured leading enterprises and institutions such as China General Nuclear Power Group, Huawei Digital Energy and Siemens Energy Innovation Center. The momentum of green industry development in the district is rapid and the density of charging facilities in Futian’s central urban area exceeds the city's average level by three times.
