Tsinghua University signed an agreement with the Futian District Government to jointly build Tsinghua University Economics and Management Shenzhen Institute on Sunday in Wuzhou Guest House in Futian District.
The institute will be Futian’s first higher education institute, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.
It is reported that the institute will gradually provide master’s, Ph.D. and EMBA programs and form a think tank to attract top talented people and teams to Futian.
The educational institute is planned as an independent legal entity, and a transitional campus will be located in UpperHills in Futian which will cover more than 5,000 square meters.
A permanent campus will be built a few years later in Futian.
The Shenzhen institute is not a subsidiary to the Beijing school. They are two independent campuses for the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SEM), according to the report.
Bai Chong’en, dean of Tsinghua SEM, expects that the Shenzhen institute will become an important platform to attract global innovative talented people and innovation resources so as to contribute to the city’s social and economic development.
Futian District and Tsinghua University will enhance cooperation to build the Shenzhen institute into a high-value platform to promote collaboration between Shenzhen and Beijing and Shenzhen and Hong Kong, as well as promote the integration of industry and research.
At the same time, it is hoped that the institute can play a role in helping Shenzhen as well as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area achieve high-quality development in the future, according to the report.
