Shenzhen traffic police recently launched a fast zebra crossing mechanism at the intersection of Xinzhou and Lianhua roads in Futian District to improve passing efficiency, according to Shenzhen Economic Daily.
With the mechanism, pedestrians no longer need to wait on safety islands for another green light to cross the street and it forms a green wave band for pedestrians to cross the street without stopping.
Before this, residents need to wait for traffic light for two or three times to cross the street. With the new zebra crossing, the time is said to be cut roughly in half now.
These two roads see high passenger flow, especially for people coming to Peking University Shenzhen Hospital.
The green wave band idea, which in the past refers to allowing vehicles to pass through one road without stopping, has now been applied to pedestrian crossing, the Daily report said. It not only makes zebra crossing faster, but also reduces the number of jaywalking citizens.
