Exhibition showcases Guangdong woodcarving
Shenzhen Daily 2022-07-22 15:43

From a 5-meter-tall sacrificial chamber to a 2.87-meter-tall shrine to a 1.1-meter-tall multi-layer candied fruit box, exquisite gold-coated woodcarvings and gold lacquer items collected by Shenzhen Museum and Guangdong Folk Craft Museum are on display.

Ingenious openwork carving techniques yield delicate works of art and the overlapping layers on these objects are akin to drawings depicting intricate plots. In selecting subject matters, Guangdong woodcarvings mainly deal with figures through the representation of themes such as daily life, historic figures, dramas, flowers, birds, insects, fish, crabs and lobsters.
