THE first Cultural Exchange Week between China and South Korea opened in Xiangmihu Subdistrict, Futian District, on Oct.17.
The six-day event is organized by the foreign affairs office of the district government, the subdistrict office and Shenzhen’s Korean chamber of commerce.
It features a variety of cultural and sports activities aimed at displaying Chinese and Korean cultures, including performance of folk dances from the two countries, a concert by Chinese and Korean youths, a Chinese and Korean fashion show, as well as an exhibition of paintings and calligraphy works entitled “Shenzhen, My Second Hometown.”
One activity called “China Pavilion” sees South Koreans putting on traditional Chinese apparel before leading two teams to play a game called ancient Chinese hockey.
Chinese and South Koreans take part in sports activities like a soccer match and a tug-of-war competition.
In addition, charity sales of Korean products raised funds to help poverty-stricken children and people with disabilities.
Most of the activities were held on the square of Donghai Plaza in the Donghai residential community.
The community is home to more than 1,000 expats, 80 percent of whom are South Koreans.
It is one of the most international communities in Futian, therefore the district government plans to draw attention to it.
