Futian District covers a total area of 78.66 square kilometers, accounting for about 4% of the total area of Shenzhen.
Futian ranks among the top districts in China in terms of economic output, with a regional gross domestic product of 551.40 billion yuan (US$75.76 billion) in 2022.
Futian is the central district of Shenzhen and the seat of the municipal government. It serves as the administrative, cultural, financial, business and international communication center of the city. Futian's business environment has eight advantages:
Highest economic density: It generates nearly one-fifth of the city's total economic output with only 4% of the total area, ranking first in per capita gross domestic product and per capita tax revenue.

Most extensive metro network: With 10 metro lines, Futian has a transportation density equivalent to Japan’s Tokyo and Central District in Hong Kong, with 1.37 kilometers of transportation per square kilometer.
Most concentrated medical resources: Nine Grade III hospitals out of the 32 in the city are located in Futian, accounting for over 20% of medical institutions in the city.
Futian has a high concentration of firms with their headquarters located in the district.
Futian is home to four Shenzhen homegrown Fortune 500 companies, with 108 municipal Futian-headquartered companies, ranking first in the city, and over 500 district-level Futian-headquartered companies.
Futian has a prominent advantage as a financial center, with organizations such as the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, the Shenzhen branches of the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, and the China Securities Regulatory Commission located in the district.
Futian and Shenzhen’s municipal government have jointly built the first "national + local + foreign capital" venture capital and investment hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area --- Xiangmihu international venture capital and investment block. Futian has also been approved as the city's only national pilot zone for climate investment and financing.
Futian has accelerated the construction of Shenzhen’s urban technology innovation zone. The Hehaitao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone in Futian focuses on technological innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It has attracted key research and technology platforms such as the Shenzhen International Quantum Research Institute, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area International Digital Economy Academy and Shenzhen Data Exchange.
